TAKE RISKS FAIL FAST! This is the mindset behind the unstoppable force that is Mark Nathan. From the moment he graduated in 1989 with an MBA from Babson College Business School, Mark has managed to combine his unrelenting drive with a passion for perfection. Starting his toy career at Mattel in the Marketing Department on a new Preschool line, he renegotiated previously signed Walt Disney contracts that saved the company over $1 million. He won a Creative Excellence Award for Product Innovation in 1991. What followed was a promotion to the Hot Wheels brand where he tripled both licensing and premium sales and was responsible for the highest rated Hot Wheels commercials in Mattel's history. He won a second Creative Excellence Award for Packaging Design in 1992.
Mark then went to Buddy L Toys where he led the Vehicles Division to a 32% growth. He rejuvenated the line by breaking away from traditional approaches through added licenses and features.
Mark’s next feat was rescuing Franklin Mint’s vehicle division with a ground-breaking business plan introducing NASCAR, Construction, Farm, Hot Rods, Muscle cars and other vehicles. He deftly renegotiated signed agreements and recouped over $2 million. He left his mark by educating the company on distribution alternatives including premiums, merchandising and catalogues.
Finally realizing his unique talent for taking the art of negotiating to the next level, he started his own Sports Licensing company, focusing in motorsports, earning clients including Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace and Tony Schumacher.
Next stop was parlaying these successful legendary driver licensing programs into a relationship with new start-up Team Beans, LLC (dba Forever Collectibles). As part of the founding Forever Collectibles team, he negotiated, secured and managed 60 sport/non-sport licensing programs, including renegotiating contracts the CEO had signed, saving the company over $2.5 million. As 1 of 60 salespeople he secured over 20% of company sales. It was no surprise when Forever Collectibles quickly grew to be a top sports collectibles company.
Mark finally yielded to the urging of a friend to help grow his toy company and was named CEO and President of Tucker International shortly after signing on. He was instrumental in a total restructuring of the company, resulting in growth of over 800% in just four years. He led the Tucker team to doubling worldwide distribution territories, expanding the unique and innovative product line from 6 items to more than 30 and adding direct-to-retail sales to the original distributor-only business model. In 2016 alone, Tucker Toys earned 44 prestigious awards from top associations and then over 85 total since Mark came aboard in 2013! Mark was passionate about his vision for Tucker Toys, continued to focus on developing distinctive toys that encouraged exercise and good health, making a difference in the world. Tucker Toys caught the eyes of many competitors and was sold in 2018!
At the urging of some competitors who were seeking help in building their brands and companies, Mark then started Dynamic Play Network, LLC. DPN handles sourcing, manufacturing and global sales for many companies looking to increase margins and profits. In just a year, DPN has saved some clients over 70% in manufacturing costs alone as well as secured international distribution partners. DPN specializes in the toy industry but has also expanded into health and wellness and fitness equipment as well.
During down time, Mark’s interests include keeping healthy (he completed the New York City Marathon at 39), traveling and spending time with his amazing wife Dina and his two treasured children, Nicholas 14 and Haylee 11, who are his official toy testing dynamic duo!
