Bio

Hey there. I've been in the toy world for 27 years, entering it in 1990 with the introduction of the game TriBond at Toy Fair. We went on to sell 3 million copies of that game in 13 countries. I also designed Blurt!, which has sold over a million copies. in 2005 I wrote Timeless Toys (Andrews-McMeel), which was praised by The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. My second book, WHAM-O Super-Book  (Chronicle Books, 2008) was picked by NPR as “One of the best gift books of the year.” My latest, Right Brain Red: 7 Ideas for Creative Success, was written with designer and super-entrepreneur Reyn Guyer.

I served as Creative Consultant on the documentary film Toyland, by director Ken Sons. The film won Best Documentary awards at three US film festivals. Sold to Documentary Channel, Toyland made its national US television debut in 2011 and its debut overseas in 2012, when it was in Japan. In 2016, I co-produced OPERATION:Operation The Power of Play about John Spinello, the inventor of the classic game Operation.

I've appeared on numerous TV and radio shows including The Early Show, NPR’s All Things Considered, This Way Up (Radio New Zealand), and Top 100 Toys (BBC), among others.

As a play advocate, I am out to prove that PLAY is not a four-letter word, but a means through which we can super-charge creativity and connection with others. I have spoken on this topic to teams as diverse as the USC’s Physical Sciences in Oncology Center, the State Bar of Arizona, and Otis College of Art & Design. I was very proud to speak at ASTRA's Marketplace & Academy in 2017.

My partners Dennis and Crystal Callaghan and I launched our new games company, Getta1Games, at ASTRA in 2016! Thank you to everyone who has welcomed us!
